Apostle Tina Suwa: A spiritual force behind Africa’s prayer movement

For Apostle Tina Suwa, prayer is more than a religious practice—it is a calling, a movement, and a force for transformation. As the founder of the Mothers in Africa Prayers Network (MAP), she has spent the last five years mobilizing believers across the continent, uniting them in intercession for Africa’s spiritual revival and leadership. Recently, MAP concluded a transformative three-day All-Africa Prayer Summit in Kigali, reaffirming its growing influence in shaping Africa’s spiritual landscape.

Suwa’s journey with MAP began in 2018 during a simple yet profound moment of faith. Alongside two Nigerian women, she organized prayers for Nigeria’s elections while in Rwanda. What started as an intimate gathering quickly grew into a movement that transcended borders.

“MAP began with women travailing in prayers, and it will prevail by travailing,” Suwa often says, emphasizing the power of persistent intercession. Today, MAP has expanded into a continent-wide network, with a presence in South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Namibia, Swaziland, Ghana, and Kenya, among others.

At the heart of MAP is the belief that prayer can change the course of nations. “We have seen God intervene in the affairs of nations and manifest as Governor over them,” Suwa notes. “We have seen the travail of our souls bear fruit.”

Leading a spiritual awakening

Suwa’s leadership is characterized by her deep conviction in the transformative power of prayer. Under her guidance, MAP has fostered unity among Christians of diverse backgrounds, urging them to take up the mantle of intercession for their nations.

The recently concluded All-Africa Prayer Summit in Kigali brought together believers from across the continent, hosted at the Life Givers Christian Center (LGCC) under the leadership of Bishop Jolly Murenzi. Delegates from Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Africa engaged in fervent prayers and faith-driven teachings.

Spiritual leaders from across Africa enriched the summit with prophetic insights and teachings. Bishop Jolly Murenziunderscored the significance of women’s leadership in ministry, encouraging female believers to embrace their divine callings. Nigerian-British minister Apostle Ambassador Theodore Effiong reignited attendees’ faith with his prophetic messages, while Apostle Jolly Umuganwa emphasized the need for believers to uphold respect for spiritual leadership and lead purpose-driven lives.

Expanding MAP’s vision

As MAP grows, so does its vision. What initially began as a network for mothers has now embraced a broader mission, welcoming not only women but also young, unmarried women and men into its fold.

“At the first All-Africa Prayer Summit in Togo 2023, the men complained about being excluded,” Suwa recalls. “The Lord said to open membership to include them because Deborah went to war with Barak.” This shift reflects MAP’s commitment to inclusivity, acknowledging that both men and women have a role in Africa’s spiritual battle.

Beyond large-scale prayer gatherings, MAP has played a crucial role in strengthening Christian unity, offering a platform for believers from different denominations to collaborate on faith-driven initiatives. It has also been instrumental in empowering women in ministry, encouraging them to step into leadership roles and impact their communities.

Apostle Tina Suwa’s enduring mission

As she looks to the future, Suwa remains steadfast in her mission. “At this five-year celebration and prayer summit, we received extraordinary grace for increase, greater impact in Africa and beyond,” she says. “Together, we advance, taking territories in every nation and enthroning Jesus as Lord over all Africa.”

Her words echo the very essence of MAP: a movement built on faith, driven by intercession, and committed to seeing Africa transformed through prayer.
