On this Wednesday 5th June 2024 , over 250 people gathered in Monrovia for the 30th commemoration of the Genocide Against Tutsi. The event began with a Walk to Remember.

Participants included H.E Synleseh Stephenie Dahn-Koung, 2nd Lady of Liberia, the Diplomatic Corps and a broad spectrum of Liberians.

Speaking after a survivor’s testimony by Charles Habonimana, Hon. Ibrahim Nyei, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, commended Rwanda’s progress over the last three decades, highlighting that there are indeed many lessons for the world to draw from its tragic history.

Permanent Secretary at the Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Clementine Mukeka, who joined the ceremony remotely commended the Liberian Govt’s solidarity and emphasized that Rwandans remember to honor the lives of victims and create awareness about the truth on the Genocide Against Tutsi as a tool to prevent similar atrocities.
Kwibuka30 in Liberia was organised by the Rwanda High Commission in partnership with United Nations in Liberia led by Resident Coordinator Christine N Umutoni and the Rwandan community in Liberia.
