A striking house that has attracted widespread attention for its distinctive beauty and decorative lighting for more than three years is set to become a hospitality facility, with its owner unveiling plans to open White Guest House in Rusizi district.

Mwalimu Neretse John, head of Mwalimu Neretse Group Ltd, announced on October 31, 2026, that the property, located in Ntenyi village, Rubugu cell, Mushaka Sector, will be converted into a guest house aimed at providing travellers with comfortable accommodation in the area.

Situated along the Kamembe–Bugarama paved road, the house has become a familiar landmark, particularly at night, when its decorative lights illuminate the building and draw the attention of passers-by.

Its distinctive appearance has even influenced how residents and travellers identify the surrounding area, with some referring to the location as “Ku nzu yaka” or “Ku nzu y’amatara” – Kinyarwanda expressions meaning “at the illuminated house” or “at the house with lights.”

The announcement marks a new chapter for the property, which is now expected to serve travellers visiting Rusizi District and those passing through neighboring sectors.

Neretse, whose business interests include commerce, agriculture and livestock farming in Rwimbogo Sector, said the long-awaited decision on the building’s intended use had finally been made.

“This beautiful house, which many of you have come to know as the illuminated house or the house with lights, has finally found its purpose. Many of you have wondered what it would be used for, and now the answer is here. It will accommodate travellers visiting Rusizi District,” Neretse said.

He added that the facility was expected to begin receiving guests on Sunday, November 1, 2026, inviting potential customers to experience its services.

“If you need a comfortable place to rest in this area, White Guest House is the place to be. You are warmly welcome. We are ready to receive you with open arms because, to us, the customer is king,” he said.

White Guest House is expected to provide an additional accommodation option for travellers visiting or moving through Rusizi District, particularly in Rwimbogo, Nzahaha, Gashonga, Bugarama and Muganza sectors, where finding suitable places to rest has reportedly been a challenge for some visitors.

The establishment is expected to contribute to improving access to hospitality services in the area by offering travellers a place to stay as they go about their activities in the district.
