Arsenal extend lead, as Liverpool and City stumble – United maintain winning run

Arsenal consolidated their grip on the Premier League summit with a slender but pivotal 1–0 win over Crystal Palace, courtesy of a first-half volley from Eberechi Eze – his former side feeling the sting. The victory extended the Gunners’ winning run and opened up a four-point cushion at the top, with Liverpool and Manchester City both stumbling. Arsenal’s defensive solidity remains impressive: they now boast multiple clean sheets in succession, a sturdy foundation as the season intensifies.

Liverpool endured another dismal weekend, falling 3–2 at Brentford, marking their fourth consecutive league defeat – equaling their worst run in Premier League history. Brentford led twice, and although Liverpool clawed back through Milos Kerkez and Mohamed Salah, a late penalty from Igor Thiago sealed the Reds’ misery. Manager Arne Slot admitted the performance was among his most disappointing, citing a lack of control and costly defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, Manchester City’s 1–0 loss at Aston Villa handed them a rare setback. Matty Cash struck a 19th-minute winner, while Erling Haaland saw a late equalizer disallowed for offside, ending his long scoring streak. The defeat leaves City trailing Arsenal and searching for form after an uncharacteristically flat display.

Amid the slip-ups of their rivals, Manchester United are quietly finding momentum. They recorded a third straight Premier League victory, edging Brighton 4–2 at Old Trafford. Bryan Mbeumo grabbed a brace, with Matheus Cunha and Casemiro also on target. Though Brighton twice narrowed the gap, United held firm to rise into the top four. Manager Rúben Amorim hailed Mbeumo as a “working machine,” praising his relentless energy and decisive finishing.
