Rwanda’s Long-distance runner athlete Felicien Muhitira has demanded for more backing as he aims for early intensive preparations ahead of the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Muhitira returned to Rwanda on Saturday, April 27, 2019 after taking part in the Italian Marathon, where he booked a place for the next Olympic games to be hosted by Japan.
During the Rome International Marathon held on April 7, 2019
Muhitira won 6th place in the category of 42KM 195M sprints in two hours, 10 minutes and 58 seconds.
Muhitira says he is going to train in Ngoma District where he used to go when he was young, and he will stay there for two months, but then he will continue in Kigali where he will need a professional coach whom he will have to pay.
When asked what he would request from the Ministry of Sports and the Board of the Rwanda Athletic Federation (RAF) he said he needs financial support.
“What I need from the Ministry and the RAF, is the financial support. You know if I go to training in Shyorongi, Rulindo or Ruhengeri, it all requires transport fees,” he said.
Muhitira has so far featured for two local clubs namely, The Mountain Classic Athletics and Nyamasheke Athletics Club.
