Butare: M23 forces the population to leave their village (notable)

By Cypridion Habimana

The population of Butare village, in territory of Rutshuru in Democratic Republic of Congo, have been ordered for three days by M23 to leave the entity to find refuge elsewhere.

According to a notable in the region, Isaac Kibira, the rebel movement uses the pretext that this locality in North Kivu is in the middle of an operational zone.

Radio Okapi wrote that Isaac Kibira adds that residents have been leaving in a hurry since Tuesday to head towards Kirumba, Tongo, Bambu and other villages. Even the village health structure has closed its doors, adds this notable.

He describes this situation as dramatic and a violation of human rights, calling on the Government and regional organizations to do everything possible to prevent these practices by the rebels.

Not long ago, other populations in the same territory of Rutshuru, notably from certain other villages in the chiefdoms of Bwito and Bwisha, were forced by the rebels to abandon their village to settle elsewhere.
