Rwanda National Police (RNP) has announced that registration and conducting provisional and practical tests for people aspiring to be drivers will start in October.
RNP spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP) John Bosco Kabera disclosed this on Monday, September 6, while appearing on a live talk-show–Good Morning Rwanda–on Rwanda Television.
As usual, he said, registration will be conducted online through Irembo platform (www.irembo.gov.rw) or through the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code *909# on the mobile phone.
“The driver’s license tests had been interrupted by the Covid-19 period and online registration system challenges, but the online system has now been restored and upgraded. There will be no more limits in registration and candidates will be able to register at any time of their convenience,” CP Kabera said.
For those whose provisional permit expired during the Covid-19 period, he explained that they will be allowed to register for the practical tests.
“We understanding that there are some people, who had provisional license and expired during this pandemic period when services including driving tests were suspended. Those who belong to this category will not resit the provisional test, they will be allowed to register and do practical tests,” CP Kabera explained.
Respect traffic rules
The RNP spokesperson further reminded drivers to respect traffic rules and regulations to prevent road accidents, loss of lives and destruction of property.
Adhering to Covid-19 prevention guidelines
CP Kabera also called upon the public to continue adhering to the directives against Covid-19 pandemic in all the opened services including recreational facilities and warned of consequences to anyone who will be caught operating services disregarding the prevention protocols.
