NCPD continues to play a pivot role in advocating for the rights of person with disability

NCPD Conducts Disability Coordination Forum Discuss Vital Updates. The Disability Coordination Forum brought together the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), and stakeholders to address critical issues affecting Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in communities.

On 4th October 2024 the focused on different  updates regarding the promotion the welfare of Persons with Disabilities in Rwanda. 

One of the highlights of the forum was the update on the Disability Management Information System. This initiative is crucial for collecting comprehensive data in country wide, which will help government agencies to plan and mainstream services for PWDs.

Accurate data is essential for  understanding the specific needs of Persons with Disabilities,” said Emmanuel Ndayisaba, Executive Secretary of NCPD.

“The insights gained from this data will enable the government  to create targeted policies that truly address the challenges faced by PWDs. Participants engaged in robust discussions around the Disability Mainstreaming guidelines, evaluating how they can be better aligned with national development priorities.

It’s vital that our strategies are integrated into broader policies to create an inclusive society for all,” said Bonaventure Uwamahoro consultant in budgeting and planning.

Also Participants shared insights on how to develop actionable strategies that bridge the gap between disability guidelines and national priorities, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for PWDs.

As the forum wrapped up,  turned their attention to the upcoming International Day of Persons with Disabilities, set for December 3, 2024. This global observance aims to raise awareness and promote the rights and well-being of PWDs.

Stakeholders outlined plans for various activities leading up to the IDPD, including awareness campaigns, community events, and policy advocacy initiatives.
