Today at the 14th Commonwealth Regional Conference of Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies underway in Accra, High Commissioner Rosemary Mbabazi representing Rwanda’s Office of the Ombudsman shared Rwanda’s experience with the 21 African countries at the forum.

H.E. Mbabazi cited political will, use of technology to ease access to public service, awareness creation to build public ownership of the fight against corruption, Rwanda’s homegrown solution Abunzi (local arbitrators) who help deal with cases at the grassroots as key success factors in Rwanda’s combat against corruption.

Rwanda was ranked 49th globally in Transparency International’s 2023 Corruption Perception Index, making it Africa’s least corrupt country per the index.
