Rwanda Olympic committee shambling as boss Munyabagisha persists despite criticism.

Rwanda National Olympic and Sports committee (RNOSC) faces criticism accusing its leadership to be in a shambling run due to weakness.

As the General Assembly is slated for October 11, 2020, Impamba news outlet reports that it was organized following members’ pressure on RNOSC’s leadership. While on the assembly’s agenda, no planned discussion point for next election due in early 2021, causing polemics that the current committee wants to carry on.

Among other accusations include: row between RNOSC and Rwanda Athletics Federation (RAF); the mystery of support donated by International Olympic Committee (IOC) dedicated to member federations to mitigate COVID-19 effect on athletes; and the abuse of RNOSC’s budget through excess mission fees in favor of individuals rather than common interests.

Some members who decided to remain anonymous to Impamba news outlet said that Amb. Valens Munyabagisha, president of RNOSC wants to maintain leadership until post-Olympic games slated for August 2021 in Japan, to mean that election of new committee will have to be done afterwards, which is contrary to the law, as reminded in the IOC’s letter of April 23rd 2020 to all National Olympic Committees stating that each four-year term should be respected.

Munyabagisha denies allegations

When asked about the abuse of RNOSC’s budget through excess mission fees in favor of individuals rather than common interests, Amb. Munyabagisha said that doubters should wait for Auditor’s report during the next General Assembly; while regarding the mystery of support donated by International Olympic Committee (IOC) dedicated to member federations to mitigate COVID-19 effect on athletes, he said: “We did not get the IOC’s donation although some other National Committees did.”

Impamba reports that Munyabagisha refused to give some details unless through face to face interview with the journalist
